Dear Esteemed Colleagues, Distinguished Guests, and Honored Friends,

I am thrilled to extend a warm welcome to each of you on behalf of the Organizing Committee for the 57th South African Society for Basic and Clinical Pharmacology (SASBCP) Annual Conference. This significant event is scheduled to take place at the charming Irene Country Lodge in Centurion, Gauteng, South Africa, from the 15th to the 17th of September 2024.

This year’s conference, hosted by the Department of Pharmacology and Therapeutics at Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University, features an exciting scientific program titled “Pharmacology for post-pandemic Africa – Antifragility in Action”. We have also prepared a delightful social agenda set against the beautiful backdrop of the African Pride Country Lodge, affectionately known as Irene Farm – The Farm in the City.

Our comprehensive program will span various pertinent topics, including basic and clinical pharmacology, complementary and alternative medicines, pharmacovigilance, regulatory affairs, pharmacoeconomics, green pharmacology and pharmacology education. The presentations will focus on the latest therapeutic strategies in pharmacology, bridging them with fundamental aspects of novel drug discovery targets. The conference aims to create a synergistic platform for professionals, researchers, and experts from diverse backgrounds to share insights, knowledge, and best practices in these fields.

In light of the recent Covid-19 pandemic and its aftermath, the conference will delve into the strategies and research advancements in pharmacology, equipping us to face current and future challenges effectively.
